Padel Court Dimensions and How Much Space You Need

A padel court is 20m by 10m, but that's not the whole story. What the standard court size is and how much total space you should plan for.
If you're planning a court, the first number to know is the playing area. After that, it's about the space around it and the structure above it.
The standard court size
A padel court's playing area is 20 metres long by 10 metres wide, which is 200 square metres. That is the standard set out for doubles play. The court is enclosed, with glass at the back and lower sides and metal mesh above, so you're planning for a structure, not just a surface.
Space to plan for
The 20 by 10 is the court itself. In practice you'll want a bit more room so people can move around it safely and so the court can be accessed and maintained. If you're going covered or indoor, you also need to think about height clearance above the court, not just the floor area.
- +Allow for access around the court, not just the 200 m² playing area.
- +For covered or indoor courts, plan the clearance height above the court, not only the footprint.
- +For outdoor courts, a north to south orientation of the long axis is commonly recommended to reduce low-sun glare for players.
Base and ground
The court sits on a prepared base. The right base depends on your site and whether you want a permanent or a relocatable install, which is something worth assessing before you commit to a layout.
Our take: dimensions are the easy part, the base and site conditions are where projects live or die. We quote installation and groundworks separately after assessing the actual site.
